Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines via "natural" or "organic" search results for targeted keywords. Usually the higher a websites "ranks" in the search results the more searchers will visit the website. Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search and industry specific vertical search engines.

Without getting too technical, at a high level; SEO techniques focus on key phrase research and analysis, relevant content optimisation, coding, site submission and link popularity. SEO may involve a website's coding, presentation and structure as well as fixing problems that could prevent the search engine indexing programmes from fully spidering your website. As well as adding unique content and ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots. You may need to get your website developer or a search engine optimisation specialist like us to do this for you.

For you, the first stage is to choose targeted keyword phrases related to your products or services. then it is about ensuring that your website ranks well when those keyword phrases are part of a web search.

Through our years of SEO experience, we have developed a proven and methodical process of obtaining and maintaining high rankings in search engines to deliver:

  • Higher page ranking in natural or organic search.
  • Increased traffic to your website.
  • Development of niche keywords/keyword phrases to capture visitors closer to the buying decision.
  • Targeting of individual website pages with specific keywords relevant to a particular target group.
  • Long-term positioning can be obtained through ongoing monitoring and assessment.

Keyword Intelligence Research is the process by which we research and develop of a list of keywords and keyword phrases. We are looking for words that are:

  • Specific - not just "products" or "services".
  • Popular - searchers actually type the phase into their search box in sufficient numbers to be worthwhile to us.
  • Practical - the phrase is not so popular that it would take a second mortgage and three lifetimes to win in the competition to rank highly for the particular phrase.

Once selected the first action is to ensure the keyword phrases are used appropriately across all website pages:

  • Content.
  • Meta-Keywords.
  • Meta-Descriptions.
  • Meta-Titles.
  • Alt (image) Tags.
  • Link text.

Personal Search Optimisation.

Search Engine Optimisation is a fairly well known phrase describing some of the things I do to get a website found by search engines like Google.

Google is making a number of significant developments to give users a number of filtering options so, as human beings we are more likely to find exactly what we are looking for.

To check out what this means I attended a seminar this week entitled ‘Personal Search Optimisation: A new way to help websites take advantage of search’.

And I actually came away believing that First Effect is ahead of the game. I have always said that a website should be built with content that human beings want, because it is human beings, not search engines that will become customers.

The upshot of this seminar was that websites that have been building loads of irrelevant links or stuffing their websites with keywords need to watch out as Google is likely to significantly down-grade their ranking.

Conversely websites that attract visitors who go on to several different pages and stay on the website for some time are likely to reap rewards from these changes.

My Top Tip: Keep your website fresh and current.

Add relevant news, video, photos, podcasts and articles to your website every month.
